BJP’s women MPs complain to speaker against Rahul Gandhi’s ‘flying kiss’ in Lok Sabha

Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in India, a new controversy has erupted after Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition Congress party, was seen blowing a flying kiss in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the no-confidence motion.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party in India, has condemned Gandhi’s gesture, calling it “shameful” and “hooliganism”. The BJP’s women MPs have also lodged a complaint with the speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, demanding action against Gandhi.

The controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s ‘flying kiss’ in Lok Sabha continues. Amit Malviya, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s IT department, has now shared a video of the Congress MP blowing a flying kiss on X (previously Twitter).

In the six-second video, Gandhi motions for an MP to take a seat while gesticulating in the Lok Sabha. ‘Sansad me lafangai karte Rahul Gandhi..sharmnaak! (Rahul Gandhi’s hooliganism in Lok Sabha…shameful)’, Malviya captioned the video.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Gandhi can be seen asking an MP to be seated while he gestures in the Lok Sabha. As he does so, he blows a flying kiss in the direction of the BJP benches.

The BJP has accused Gandhi of making a “vulgar gesture” at the women MPs in the House. Union minister Shobha Karandlaje said that it was “unacceptable” and that the party had complained to the speaker to take action against Gandhi.

While responding to Gandhi’s statement, Union Minister Smriti Irani referred to his gesture inside the House. “The individual who talked before me was inappropriate. Only a misogynistic man can give female legislators a flying kiss. “It reflects his khandhan and how his family and party feel about women,” the minister remarked in response to Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Gandhi’s gesture was “painful” and that he had “no manners”. He also accused Gandhi of trying to “distract” the House from the no-confidence motion debate.

Gandhi has not yet responded to the controversy. However, his Congress party has accused the BJP of trying to “malign” his image.

The controversy comes at a time when the Congress party is facing an uphill battle in the no-confidence motion. The BJP has a clear majority in the Lok Sabha and is expected to defeat the motion. However, the Congress party is hoping to use the debate to put the government on the back foot.

The flying kiss controversy is likely to add to the political heat in India. It remains to be seen how the speaker will respond to the complaint from the BJP’s women MPs.
