Chaitra Navratri 2024: Day 3 Dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta

The third day of Chaitra Navratri is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta, the third form of Goddess Durga. Maa Chandraghanta is depicted as having a lion’s head and a crescent moon on her forehead. She is also known as the “Destroyer of Demons” and is said to be the protector of her devotees.

Maa Chandraghanta Day 3: Importance

Maa Chandraghanta is the planet Sun’s ruler. Goddess Parvati in her Chandraghanta form is a peace-loving goddess, and those who worship her with sincere intentions are bestowed with prosperity, happiness, and good health by Maa. The moon bell on her forehead is said to have a cleansing effect on her aura and to dispel negativity. Since she is the goddess of the Manipura Chakra, which is situated on the navel, Navratri days are the ideal times for anyone interested in spirituality and yoga to begin their meditation practice.

Maa Chandraghanta: Who is she?

In this reality, Maa Chandraghanta instituted justice and discipline. Maa Parvati’s married form is Goddess Chandraghanta. Following her marriage to Lord Shiva, the goddess began to adorn her forehead with a crescent moon. Goddess Parvati is called Maa Chandraghanta because of the half-moon.

Riding atop a lion that symbolizes Dharma is she. Maa Chandraghanta has a brilliant golden complexion. She possesses 10 hands, three eyes, and a variety of weaponry in her hands, including a sword, a dagger, a bow and arrow, and in another hand, a kamandal, a lotus, and a japa mala.

Her fifth hand is made up of the Varada Mudra with her left hand and the Abhay Mudra with her right. The moon is positioned in the shape of a Ghanta, or bell, on her forehead.

Puja Vidhi for Maa Chandraghanta

The puja vidhi for Maa Chandraghanta is as follows:

  • Wake up early in the morning and take a bath.
  • Wear clean clothes and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha.
  • Install the idol of Maa Chandraghanta in a clean and decorated place.
  • Light a lamp and offer incense sticks.

Chant the following mantra:

पिण्डजप्रवरारुढा चण्डकोपास्त्रकैर्युता।
प्रसादं तनुते मह्यां चन्द्रघण्टेति विश्रुता॥

And

“ॐ जय चन्द्रघण्टाय नमः”
