Delhi CM orders suspension of official after rape allegation

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday ordered the suspension of an official accused of raping his friend’s daughter. The official, who is posted in the Delhi government’s transport department, has been accused of raping the 16-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

The girl’s father filed a complaint with the police on Monday, alleging that the official had been raping his daughter for the past few months. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Kejriwal said that he was “deeply disturbed” by the allegations and that he had ordered the suspension of the official pending investigation. He also assured the victim and her family that the government would provide them with all necessary support.

“The accused will be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” Kejriwal said. “We will not tolerate such crimes against women.”

The victim’s father said that he was grateful to Kejriwal for taking action against the accused. He said that he hoped that the police would take swift action and bring the accused to justice.

The case has sparked outrage in Delhi and has raised questions about the safety of women in the city. The Delhi Commission for Women has demanded that the police take immediate action against the accused and that the government provide security to the victim and her family.

The case is a reminder of the need to address the issue of sexual violence against women in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, over 32,000 cases of rape were reported in India in 2021. The vast majority of these cases go unreported.

Kejriwal’s swift action against the accused is a positive step, but it is important to ensure that he is brought to justice. The government must also take steps to address the root causes of sexual violence against women, such as gender inequality and patriarchy.
