Asia Cup Rains: Sethi Questions BCCI’s Decision to Host Tournament in Sri Lanka

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has questioned the BCCI’s decision to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, citing the country’s unpredictable weather.

The Asia Cup is currently being held in Sri Lanka, and has been marred by rain. Several matches have been interrupted or abandoned due to wet weather, and the tournament is now facing the possibility of being shortened.

Sethi, who is also the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), said that he had repeatedly warned the BCCI about the risks of hosting the tournament in Sri Lanka.

“I had told the BCCI that it was a risky decision to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka,” Sethi said. “The weather in Sri Lanka is unpredictable, and there is always a chance of rain. This is what has happened, and now the tournament is being disrupted.”

The BCCI has defended its decision to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, saying that it was the best option available.

“We had to choose a venue that was convenient for all the participating teams,” a BCCI official said. “Sri Lanka was the best option, and we are confident that the tournament will be a success.”

However, Sethi is not convinced. He believes that the BCCI should have moved the tournament to the UAE, where the weather is more reliable.

“The UAE would have been a better option,” Sethi said. “The weather there is much more stable, and there is less chance of rain. This would have ensured that the tournament was played without any disruptions.”

The Asia Cup is scheduled to end on September 19. However, with the tournament already being disrupted by rain, it is unclear whether it will be able to be completed on time.

Sethi believes that the BCCI should consider shortening the tournament if the weather does not improve.

“If the rain continues, the BCCI should consider shortening the tournament,” Sethi said. “This is the only way to ensure that the tournament is completed.”

The BCCI has not yet commented on Sethi’s suggestion. However, it is likely that the board will be closely monitoring the weather conditions in Sri Lanka in the coming days.

Sethi Questions BCCI’s Decision to Host Tournament in Sri Lanka

The Asia Cup is a major tournament in the cricket calendar, and the BCCI would be keen to avoid any disruptions. However, the weather in Sri Lanka is unpredictable, and there is no guarantee that the tournament will be able to be completed without any further rain delays.

Sethi’s comments have put the BCCI in a difficult position. The board has already invested a lot of money in hosting the tournament in Sri Lanka, and it would be a major financial loss if the tournament had to be shortened or canceled. However, the board also has a responsibility to ensure that the tournament is played in fair and competitive conditions.

The BCCI will need to weigh up the risks and benefits of continuing with the tournament in Sri Lanka. If the weather does not improve, the board may have to make the difficult decision to shorten or cancel the tournament.

In the meantime, the cricket fans in Sri Lanka and around the world will be hoping that the rain gods will spare the Asia Cup and allow the tournament to be completed without any further disruptions.
