India elects to field first at Kensington Oval as India tour of West Indies begins

India and West Indies to test players and roles in ODI series

India and West Indies will both be looking to test players and roles in the three-match ODI series starting on Thursday in Bridgetown, Barbados.

For India, the series is an opportunity to try out a few new players ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Suryakumar Yadav will be looking to cement his spot in the team, while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be fighting for the wicket-keeper spot.

The West Indies, meanwhile, will be looking to rebuild for the next World Cup cycle. They have not qualified for the 2023 tournament, so this series is a chance for them to give opportunities to some youngsters.

Without experienced players like Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies will be a much weaker team than they have been in the past. However, this could be an opportunity for some of their younger players to make a name for themselves.

The first ODI is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM IST on Thursday.
