2011 – Mohali

2nd Semi-Final (D/N), Mohali, March 30, 2011, ICC Cricket World Cup

India’s 2011 World Cup campaign was a historic one, as they finally broke their 28-year drought and lifted the trophy. The team had gone through a transition period after their disappointing performance in the 2007 tournament, but MS Dhoni’s captaincy and the emergence of new stars like Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina helped them to reach the top.

One of the most memorable matches of the tournament was the semi-final against Pakistan. India batted first and put up a challenging 260/9, thanks to a half-century from Sachin Tendulkar and some sloppy fielding from Pakistan. Wahab Riaz took a fifer for Pakistan, but they were unable to chase down the target and were bowled out for 231 runs. India won the match by 29 runs and went on to lift the trophy.
