India Vs Australia 2nd T20I: India Thrash Australia, Take Commanding 2-0 Lead in T20I Series

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India – India produced a clinical all-round performance to thrash Australia by 44 runs and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. Electing to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 235/4, their highest score in T20Is against Australia. The top three batters – Yashasvi Jaiswal (53), Ruturaj Gaikwad (58), and Ishan Kishan (52) – all scored half-centuries to set the platform for the massive total.

Australia’s Chase Falters

In reply, Australia’s chase never really got going, as they were always behind the required run rate. The Indian bowlers were disciplined and kept the Australian batters in check, with Ravi Bishnoi (3/32) and Prasidh Krishna (3/41) taking three wickets each. Marcus Stoinis (45) and Tim David (37) provided some late resistance, but it was too little too late as Australia fell short by 44 runs.

India in Firm Control

With this victory, India has taken a firm grip on the series and will be looking to seal it in the third T20I in Guwahati on Tuesday. Australia, on the other hand, will need to come up with a much better performance to stay alive in the series.

India took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series after defeating Australia by 44 runs in the second Twenty20 International on Sunday.

Australia, chasing a formidable 236 runs, was limited to 191 for nine within the allotted 20 overs. Australia lost their top four for 58 runs in the powerplay after being struck twice by Ravi Bishnoi (3/32). Additionally, Glenn Maxwell (12) fell cheaply.

Marcus Stoinis then took the lead in the chase with a lightning knock. However, Mukesh Kumar (1/43) ended his 45-run innings to provide the breakthrough. Along with his return, Prasidh Krishna (3/41) claimed three wickets.

When they batted, India scored an incredible 235/4. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 77 runs for the first wicket in 5.5 overs, putting India on a fast start.

Jaiswal went for twenty-five off just 25 balls, and then Ishan Kishan (52) and Gaikwad (58) put on an 87-run partnership for the second wicket.

In a flash, Rinku Singh scored an undefeated 31 off of nine balls. In Vizag, India had won the opening Twenty20 International by a margin of two wickets.

Nathan Ellis claimed three wickets for Australia, while Marcus Stoinis claimed one.

The Men in Blue won by eight wickets in Vizag on Friday, with captain Suryakumar Yadav leading from the front and Rinku Singh maintaining his solid temperament to give this second-string Indian side their maiden series victory. Notably, the Indian team is without all-rounder and captain Hardik Pandya, who is out of the tournament due to an ankle injury sustained in the World Cup’s league stage. Additionally, veterans like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not been included in the T20 squad since the 2022 T20 World Cup.

India’s Second-String Team Continues to Impress

Except for a few players, such as captain Pat Cummins and seasoned opener David Warner, the Australian team is the same one that won the World Cup.

The Mathew Wade-led team would still take a lot of positives from the previous game, which included 208 runs in 20 overs with Josh Inglis and Steve Smith leading the innings. However, the Kangaroos would feel that their bowling would need to create more opportunities to beat this Indian team, even though they narrowly lost the first Twenty Twenty.

Brief Scores:

India: 235/4 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 53, Ruturaj Gaikwad 58, Ishan Kishan 52; Nathan Ellis 2/45)

Australia: 191/9 (Marcus Stoinis 45, Tim David 37; Ravi Bishnoi 3/32, Prasidh Krishna 3/41)
